A Modern Day Dad
I am a new dad and like many other new dads of this generation I have a lot of interests that are now intertwined with poopy diapers. This blog will chronicle not only the new experiences and advice I have for fathers-to-be, but will also allow me to ramble on about a few of my favorite things. Sports, Photography, Entertainment, Cooking, Fine Wines, Bourbons and Micro Brews. I hope you enjoy.

Don't know what to take to the pot luck?
Check out Wacky Dad's newest recipe for Buffalo Chicken dip. You may gain a couple lbs just reading the recipe but who cares this time of year...

Blackmailing Your Kids
Blackmail, pre-punishment, future justice, call it what you will but why do parents (including myself) feel the need to dress our children up in the most awful outfits. This Christmas my wife and I did this to our poor son. I'm sure 15 years from now when his girl friend comes over I can threaten him to clean his room or I'm going to pull out the pictures of him in an elf costume I'll be happy that I did this. But part of me feels bad for him. I mean sure my parents did it to me, and their parents probably did it to them. But still are there no limits to the things we put our kids through in the name of "cuteness." Just something to ponder this holiday season as you put your own offspring in silly outfits for the Christmas Card Photo.
90 Minute of Heaven
I came across Dogfish Head two years ago when their 60 Minute IPA was recommended to me by a fellow beer aficionado at the liquor store. Ever since that first sip. Dogfish Head has been overall my favorite brewery. Their 90 Minute IPA is one top 5 beers I have ever had. At 9% alcohol and 90 IBUs. The 90 minute is a serious beer. Brewed in Milton, Delaware, the 90 Minute Imperial IPA is the top selling Imperial IPA in America
Also be sure to check out Brew Masters on the Discovery Channel. It's all about the Dogfish Brewery and the crazy yet delicious beers they make.

Stoudt's Double IPA
This week's beer in review is the Double IPA for Stoudt's. At 10% abv and 75 IBUs this imperial IPA with put a "hop" in your step this Holiday Season. This full bodied Ale has a beautiful golden color and is full of nice "hoppi" and Malty notes. This IPA is mostly sweet and has only a light bitterness on the back end. A pretty impressive feet for being 10% abv and 75 IBUs.
I give this beer a 4.3 out 5.

2am...You are not my friend anymore
Back in my college days the sight of 2am on a blury clock was a common occurrence. Many a nights 2am witnessed some of my best school work, as well as, some of the best memories I had in college.
For almost the last decade I only saw my once good friend 2am a couple times a year. We would rehash old stories and make some new ones for the next time we saw each other.
However, since the birth of my son in late August, 2am and I have reacquainted with each other, only this time we are seeing way to much of each other and this time we are no longer friends. Seeing the red bury 2:00 on the alarm clock with the sounds of my son's cries over the monitor means a long walk down the hall for my wife or I to see what is a matter while the other tries to go back to sleep.
I'm not going to lie. My encounters with my once good friend has decreased over the last month but as we try and transition my son into his crib I'm afraid it might start an ugly trend.
For the to-be-dad's out there here are a few suggestions to minimize your run ins to your old 2am friend.
You won't avoid it completely but you can at least take some steps to reduce the run ins.
1.) Learn to swaddle. Actually forget that. Go buy a Swaddle Me. They are great and the little buggers can't escape them. It took about 2 months for us to learn that. But since we started with the Swaddle Me's life has been a lot easier. (side note- if you are going to use a blanket, make sure BOTH arms are tucked away for the night. Trust me.
2.) Get the baby out of your room as soon as possible. Like all new parents the thought of having your child more than 5' away at any time is hard. But do yourself a favor and put him in his room and keep him there. They will be okay. When they are in the room you never get into a deep sleep. You hear every little sound. Even the littlest cue will make you almost jump out of bed. And once they are in the other room turn down your monitor so that you only hear when they are crying.
3.) Get a swing. If your little angle doesn't like to sleep flat try sleeping them in a swing. Since we moved our little guy over he sleeps so much better. I also hear a car seat works as well, although I find the straps get in the way.
I hope these help. Also, remember all babies are different and will respond to differently.
